I'd never really heard of Juneteenth until today. This holiday honors the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth was first celebrated in TEXAS in 1865 and spread across the US and the world, celebrating and commemorating the freedom of African Americans in America and around the world.
It was on this day that the Union Army came into Galveston, Texas and enforced the emancipation set forth by Lincoln. Galveston has huge Juneteenth celebrations - some of the biggest in the world! I guess everything is bigger in Texas. :)
I'm so grateful that we live in a free country and for how far it has come since it started.
