4 am

I'm sitting here in the Flight Operations building at Southwest Airlines. And it's 4am.

Why, you ask?

Because I'm the intern. And the interns get to come to work at 3:30 am when no one else wants to but we have to escort our guests.

1310 The Ticket is broadcasting it's morning show here from the Flight Ops building. This is where they have the simulators and flight attendant safety training. It's a really cool building and should be a fun morning, watching them broadcast live and participate in the different activities. There will be more about this later today or tomorrow.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I discovered that my Bosch mixer, my favorite thing, can shred chicken. How cool is that? I HATE shredding chicken with two forks like they usually recommend. And it's mostly the sound the forks make. I have the most sensitive ears when it comes to scratchy noises. I shudder and cringe when peoples' forks/knives scrape on their plates too hard. There are some pretty awesome faces involved.

Fastest shredded chicken I've ever made. Just boiled it and threw it in with a little water. Usually I don't boil chicken because it's boring and doesn't taste that great but for tacos, it was perfect. It made for a great dinner.

Highlight of yesterday:

We got to straighten Ahmad's hair!

Here's the story: Ahmad made a really silly bet. He told Carrie if she came to the gym two days in a row at 5am we could straighten his hair, or else she had to make him cookies. Yeah, 2 days. Anyone can do anything for 2 days. And she did! Way to go, Carrie! If it were me, I would have made someone do it for AT LEAST a week, probably longer!

He was super happy about the whole thing.

He does have some beautiful hair! We decided he either looks like an Indian Chief or some kind of metal rocker dude.

With the 2 straighteners it actually only took about 15 minutes to straighten it all. It wasn't perfect but this guy has some ridiculously curly/coarse hair!

Lesson learned, Ahmad? Don't make silly bets :)

Oh, and Happy Nation Caviar Day! I don't plan on eating caviar today..but for those of you who like the fancy stuff, go for it and let me know how it is! Kathie Lee and Hoda had a caviar pizza on their show a little while ago that was worth almost $1,000.

Pretty sure I wouldn't pay that much for food even if it was the best thing I had ever tasted.

too much food? nah.

You know those times when you get used to eating out a lot and get out of the groove of cooking? Yeah, we're about there. It's mostly because we get a lot of free food at events or get super busy/lazy. This week, being 4th of July and busy and different meant not much at-home food. If anyone has some good recipes to get me back into the swing of cooking, please let me know! Too much non-homemade food.

Now, this is a wonderful day.

Happy Chocolate Day!

Now, this day is not to be confused with National Chocolate Day or International Chocolate Day. Those are not in July. World Chocolate Day is on September 4 and National Chocolate Day is on October 28.

Chocolate Day, just plain old Chocolate Day, today, commemorates the day that chocolate was discovered in 1550. The start of the continental cocoa craze is traced to July 7 of that year.

To start out our chocolate celebration today, I made pancakes with a chocolate syrup. It wasn't like Hershey's syrup, but like an actual breakfast syrup, chocolate style. I don't know how to describe it. Just know it was delicious.

MMmmm.. After breakfast we went and played tennis! It was lots of fun. I haven't played since PE in junior high, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm still not that great. Hopefully we'll play more soon.

Because my hubby is a superstar, he went and played basketball after playing tennis.

What a champ. I love watching him play but boy it was hot outside!

The sun is keeping my hair nice and blonde :)

It is doing much better in the Dallas humidity than I thought it would.

Along with chocolate day, today is also National Macaroni Day!

I love macaroni and cheese. So we got to have it for dinner. And I LOVE the fake, boxed stuff, thank you very much.

Paul and I eat our Mac n Cheese very different.

Me: plain, with a fork, in a bowl.
Paul: mixed with tuna, with a spoon, in the pan.

I have to take out whatever I want before he dumps his stinky tuna in and ruins it. I guess it's his excuse to eat the rest.

To end this lovely day, we ate some more chocolate and watched "Unstoppable." I get so stressed out in movies like that.

But my Dove chocolate bar made it all better.

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend, y'all!

so hot, so cool

First, I kept the pudding from yesterday in the fridge all night and it definitely thickened up. Ate it today for lunch and it wasn't too bad. I still like the instant pudding better.

Happy National Sunglasses Day!
I think sunglasses are so much fun. I've only ever owned one pair at a time and the most I've ever spent on a pair is $10. These lovely shades from H&M didn't cost more than $7. I looked at some pairs that were over $200 and ADORABLE but couldn't get myself to pay that much. So I went from one extreme to the other!

Someday I want to own a pair of Tory Burch or Tiffany sunglasses. We'll see how long it takes me to have the courage to pay for them.

I really like this outfit I wore today. The striped shirt was a little long for my body but I'm working on finding a better shirt length to layer. It's hard for me because I have a super short torso so I try to wear longer shirts to hide that but too long and it has the reverse affect. Any suggestions?

I LOVE colored blazers. If I didn't live in Texas and it wasn't 100 degrees everyday I would definitely have more. I also haven't worn my hair curly like this in a LONG time so it was a fun change! Part of it is the difficulty with the humidity and I haven't had strong hairspray until just recently. It worked pretty well!

Can I just say I am really enjoying crispy, Costco grapes? Everyone should eat some. Southwest folks, I bring them almost every day and I'm happy to share.

In other good news, they fixed Shorecrest Drive so now, if I hit every green light, it can take less than 4 minutes to get from parking garage to parking lot at Southwest. It's a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Stay cool and wear some snazzy sunglasses today. But take them off inside or you'll just look silly.

Luv, Lindsay

P.S. Some more sunglasses pictures for your enjoyment.

I love pockets.

I still love Southwest! While sometimes it's hard being the intern because you don't always have things to keep you busy, I love the projects I do get put on and am hoping that some of the things I've heard about getting involved with come to pass.

I know it sounds crazy but I've already started looking for a job for after my internship. I want SO BADLY to stay with Southwest but there is no guarantee..so I'm going to need to be prepared just in case. And I really don't want a sales job. So I'm starting now.

Paul starts at E&Y on Friday! He is very excited to not be sitting at home all day anymore. He's been great though cooking and cleaning and working out . . what a good man.

Monday was Memorial Day and we got to spend some time with my cousin again and his family. We had an awesome picnic and saw the Dallas Symphony and some sweet fireworks.

I love fireworks so much. One of the major things I miss about working at Disney.

I bought a skirt a little while ago mostly because it was cute and light and casual. I didn't find out until I wore it (and my husband is actually the one that discovered it) that it has pockets. Guys wouldn't understand this because everything they wear has pockets, but finding a dress or skirt that has pockets is basically a miracle and would make any girl's day - am I right? It definitely made mine.

So I have curly hair. Lots of it. But it's super curly on the bottom and then fairly straight on top so I can never wear it curly unless I actually curl the whole thing or it's all uneven and different and gross. But on Thursday night I washed my hair and woke up Friday with the intent to straighten it and...
It was actually all curly!

I was very surprised. (I know I look so tired in this picture . . it was about 6 am)

I'm always looking for different ways to do my hair because it's super difficult and usually takes a long time. I just bought this new gadget and will be trying it out tomorrow. Hoping it works!

I hope you have a fabulous weekend.
Most of my co-workers are enjoying their free flight benefits . . I'm hanging out with my hubby : )

Go Thunder!
