i made it.

I made it back from Utah.

60 whole days away from Texas and my hubby. It was rough, to say the least.

There will be another post soon about everything campaign, but here are some of the non-work related events from Utah.

My favorite thing was hanging out with my family. I got to see Will rock his solo in the Primary Program, McKay show his skills on the snare in marching band, and hear about all of Sarah's exciting adventures working as a CNA at an Alzheimer's Home (she has a pretty rough job sometimes.) Sarah and I had some awesome laughs..goodness gracious. Love that girl. Christmas is going to be wonderful.

I got to hang out with old roommates (congrats on the engagement, Holly!) and meet some great new friends. Reconnecting with old co workers and bosses is always fun, especially when you have a lot in common. Hanging out with your best friend since junior high is always great, too. Sleepovers, Cold Stone, long talks, football game, and food make for some great memories.

These fun times definitely made the time go by faster. Here are a few pics. See some more random pictures from Utah here.

BYU Game

Love this girl. We had some fun times over those 60 long days.

New video boards at BYU are sweet!

After all of the time I spent here last year, it totally felt like coming home.

Love my family.

And the IMG family! These guys are the best..working with them is probably what I miss most about being at BYU. So many fun times. And they are my hook up to being on the field...

Love watching from the field!

On Halloween we had a campaign event that had a theme of boots and jeans..so the logical thing to do was just be a cowgirl for Halloween, right?

Notice the Romney/Ryan pumpkin. My talented mother carved it.

So this is campaign related but I got to go on the set of 101.5 The Eagle! Love that radio station. Definitely miss the Stubbs Show in Texas.

I had a countdown going to when my plane would arrive in Dallas.
Heart beat going crazy at this point!

It was a busy 60 days, but I had some great fun. Stay tuned for campaign stories and pictures...

I know it's only day 2 . . but i LUV my job.

I feel so cheesy putting LUV on things . . it seems so cliche . . but honestly I have been using it on my email signature since I was probably in 6th grade. And I guess it's appropriate, working at Southwest and all . . but no, I didn't steal it. :)

Today during lunch we got to watch the series premier of On the Fly. If you didn't watch it, you should. It's pretty funny and shows some of the things Southwest employees encounter on the job. I only saw the one episode but I enjoyed it. People are pretty crazy sometimes!

We had happy hour for the interns today and it was fun to meet and re-meet some people. I don't think I will ever remember half of the people, but luckily I'm getting to know the people in my area pretty well. I got to sit down with several full-time employees from the brand engagement team today and am meeting with some more tomorrow. It is so helpful and has gotten me so excited for what I'm going to be doing this summer!

Things I learned today (both observations and advice from employees):

  • Southwest uses TONS of acronyms. Maybe even more than Disney. Crazy!
  • Speak up - the people at Southwest are so nice and will always accept all ideas and are so willing to answer questions and help you find answers. Everyone is so helpful.
  • At Southwest, they want to make sure you have a healthy work / personal balance. They encourage taking breaks from work and stepping away from work so you don't get burned out.
  • Write everything down (I mostly only do this now to get in the habit and look like I know what I'm doing, but I know it will come in handy and help me out as the summer goes on.)
  • The Brand Engagement team rocks. I am so happy to be where I am!

Everyone is so nice and respectful and really just a lot of fun. And it seems like quite a few people have picked up on the fact that I am Mormon. A lot of people (especially the full timers I work with) have made comments that I'm pretty sure stemmed from the fact that I'm from Utah and went to BYU . . giving a 95% chance that I'm Mormon . . :) I've had so much fun and can't wait to party this weekend.

Speaking of BYU...
Does the quote look familiar?
Yes. It's on one of the signs that EVERYONE takes a picture in front of when they come to and leave BYU. Proud (maybe not the right word) to say that I never took a picture with either sign. Ever.

But anyway, this quote is on the door going into the University for People at Southwest. I'm sure the quote is used all over but I had only ever associated it and seen it at BYU. Who knew?

Paul hasn't started work yet so he's being awesome and taking care of everything at home. Cooking, getting ripped . . all that good stuff : P

I love having friends!

Graduation

Guess what.

We GRADUATED!

It's kind of a miracle. School is done and behind us. And guess what? Grades weren't half bad either. Much better than I had expected.

Graduation was awesome. I performed piano (see previous post) and Paul and I got to walk together with our brother-in-law. Because I was on the stand, we got to walk at the beginning of the students.

(Thanks to my sister, Rachel, for the great pictures!)
Paul and Jeff are the first students walking and I'm up on the stand.

Paul and Jeff waiting for everyone to take their seats. (It took forever.)

 Playing on the big screen!

Serious face.
My cute husband standing up to give me a hug after I played. :)

 Walking..
 Walking...
 Hand shaking..

 Cute parents.
Such a fabulous day :)

I will definitely miss the advisement center.

We love the Tanner Building/Marriott School of Management!

You will be missed.

Homework and finals? Not so much.

More posts about our move to Texas to come!

Dreams.

Friday was a wonderful day.

Paul and I graduated from the Marriott School of Management. So happy.

Paul in Accounting. Me in Marketing.

Pictures to come.

For those of you who know me well, you know that I play the piano. I competed and spent long hours practicing from age 12-15. I studied with Desirae Brown and she was so patient and helped me so much in my piano goals. Up until I was 15 I thought I would major in something related to music and wanted to perform in front of thousands of people. It was on my bucket list, towards the top.

Unfortunately, I developed tendinitis when I was 15 and was forced to stop piano and let my arms heal. I figured that was it for me and the piano dream was out the window. I would never perform solo for more people than were at church on Sunday. I accepted it and enjoyed serving the smaller crowds. Business and marketing became my major and I have absolutely loved it.

A few months ago I was asked to perform at graduation on the piano. Ruth, who does an incredible job planning graduation, didn't know she was basically making my dreams come true. I had never thought about it but I was in a position now where I would be performing classical piano for thousands of people in the Marriott Center. It was hard. I could definitely feel the effects of not having played so much in a while and possibly the lasting effects of damage in my arms. I couldn't practice more than 20-30 minutes at a time. But felt so good to play again.

My performance was definitely not perfect, but I did my best. And it was a performance I could be proud of. I fulfilled a dream and checked something off of my bucket list that I never thought I would.

Thanks to everyone to helped me get to this point.

Enjoy.

We leave for Texas tomorrow. Goodbye Provo.

Stay tuned for more about our adventures.

we LOVE to party.

This was Paul's Easter surprise:
Filled with Cadburry eggs and Starburst jellybeans, of course.
We aren't big on the whole present thing. So this was it.

Bowling party at work on Friday.
I love these people and will really miss them.

What's wrong with the Y?

I played the piano on Saturday for the first time in a while. And I actually played. For real. And for a few hours. I stopped taking lessons because I got tendinitis and, unfortunately, it seems that I still have some of the effects. But it was fun to play and I don't sound too horrible.

On Saturday while Paul was playing capture the flag at the "Ernst & Younger Games," I was at the spring game for football. It's basically a scrimmage with the BYU Football team. It was pretty boring. But take a look at the field...

Do you notice anything odd?
Well, the Y is backwards.
I bet someone feels really silly about that.

Kentucky vs. Louisville in the Final Four! Pretty cool. Paul is SO excited.

This week was pretty rough with school. We are coming down the home stretch with tests and assignments, and everything is all piling up on itself. I only have 7 days left of class! It's going to be a busy few weeks though. We have to start packing and studying for finals and getting everything ready for Texas.

I won $100 this morning doing a mock sales presentation to Target. I was Durham Brands and they have this sweet new bag coming out. They're called Kaboo Bags and have a tech pouch for your iPad, Nook, etc. I think I want to buy one.

We are probably buying an XBox . . and we don't even have a TV. Go figure.
