7/11

Hey y'all. It's 7/11.

First, Happy World Population Day!

World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues.  (Thanks, Wikipedia!)

Two days ago, the world population was estimated to have been 7,025,071,966. That's a lot of people! And to think, out of all of those billions of people, I was able to find my Paul. Awww..

I thought this was kinda funny..and true..

Today was Career Day at Southwest Airlines for the interns. We learned about interviewing and various jobs around Headquarters. Unfortunately, my jobs opportunities at Southwest are looking very slim. Which makes me very sad :( I LUV this company. Luv it. I love the culture, the people, the atmosphere, what I'm doing, and again, the people. I'm going to be so sad to leave it. If there is any way I can have a marketing job there in September, I would take it in a heartbeat.

Here was my outfit for Career Day. I am not a fan of this type of picture usually but got a lot of comments on the outfit so I thought I would share.

And yes, I am standing on a chair in the bathroom. That's what you have to do when you're home alone without a full-length mirror!

I had a phone interview today and have an in-person tomorrow. I'm not sure it's exactly what I want to do, but I will find out more when I get there. I still can't start another job for about a month and a half so I'm not quite sure what will happen but I'm just going with it. Wish me luck and pray I find some fabulous job that I absolutely love..

After work today Paul and I went to Dave & Busters with some of his fellow interns. But it was a little farther away than he thought and he was only there for like 30 minutes before he left for an American Airlines Center tour. Funny funny. The food was yummy though so I was happy.

AND..

This made it so I was out and got to celebrate another holiday. Happy 7-Eleven Day!

Which to me means Happy Slurpee Day!

This is the day, July 7 or 7/11, where 7-Eleven's everywhere have free 7.11 oz slurpees from 11am to 7pm to celebrate their birthday (85th this year I believe..)

Slurpees make me think of my daddy. We used to go on Saturdays and get slurpees while getting his car washed or after soccer games. Such good times! And so delicious. Definitely one of my favorite traditions growing up. When we moved to Utah it mostly stopped, but it was great while it lasted.

What a perfect, refreshing summer treat. It's a good thing I don't drive by 7-Eleven's very often (or at least pay attention to what's on the side of the road while I'm driving) or I might stop more often to get them!

Have a wonderful 7th of July, everyone.

Ode to My Man.

First, a shout out to Fathers-in-Law.

Aren't they great? We're big fans of the concept.

Now . . onto another topic of Fathers . . or in this case . . future Fathers.

I love my Paul.

He makes me smile.

He has amazing taste. Especially in clothes and home decor. I have been wanting a big, beautiful clock for a long time and he is the one who found the perfect clock for out living room. He dresses himself so nice - he always looks so good! No, I'm not biased . . .

I love watching sports with him, even though sometimes I pretend I don't. Or I'm just too tired to enjoy it.

But I love watching his reactions. And cheering for the Thunder. And talking about how as much as Paul is a HUGE Lebron fan, he knows he will never be as good as Michael Jordan.

He loves watching this video over and over.

I like to give him a hard time about golf. When surfing the web for quotes about golf for my Southwest article I found a new favorite: "Years ago when man cursed and beat the ground with sticks it was called witchcraft. Today we call it golf." He tore through his golf glove recently.

I'm trying to get into golf . . I just get too frustrated too easily. Anyway . .

He does special things for me sometimes. Last week he came and visited me at work. He has made such a good impression on everyone he's met that they still ask about him and how he is doing.

He is from Louisville and so proud of it but doesn't talk with an accent. At all. Except he says "ya'll" again now that we're in Texas.

I am so proud of him and the great work he is doing. I love seeing him proud of when he does well in a basketball game or at work. He is good at basically everything he tries and is so supportive of other people and their successes.

We aren't huge gift people, but Paul got a Father's Day present. We will just pretend it was a surprise. ;)

He makes me so happy. While he's not a Father yet, nor will he be any time soon, it will be fun when that day comes :)
Thanks for being silly with me and putting up with my craziness.

I love you, baby. Thanks for being my Knight in Shining Armor and making me the happiest girl.

Luv, Lindsay

P.s. That fudge I made last night? SO good.

pals

Growing up, I was always very aware of the fact that everyone in my family had a nickname. Rachel was "Princess," Sarah was "Angel," McKay was "Captain," and Will was "Master." I never really had one of these that had a visual . . at least that's how I felt. Daddy always called me "pal," but he called everyone pal. I didn't feel like it was mine and to this day my siblings still make fun of me for getting upset about not having a nickname. So here's the story:

In "The Lion King" there is a scene where Simba is still a cub and he is having a tender teaching moment with his dad:

Young Simba: Dad?
Mufasa: Hmm?
Young Simba: We're pals, right?
Mufasa: Right.
Young Simba: And we'll always be together, right?

What I didn't realize at the time was that Pal was the best nickname I could have - and I will always be in the original. My dad and I always had our own version of this conversation between Simba and his dad. And to this day, we still often end conversations with "Pals, right? Forever." And while this also happens with other siblings, I still like to remind everyone that I will forever be the original Pal.

I framed this picture for my dad a couple Christmases ago.
It's in his office now :)

I am so grateful for my dad, especially on this Father's Day. It's been a rough year for all of us but we have gotten through it, much thanks to the strength and positive attitude of my dad.

He's helped me through so much. And definitely saved me more than once when it came down to crunch time with school assignments, papers, talks, assemblies, etc.

He has always inspired me with the confidence to push forward and pursue my goals in life. He has been through so much and has made sure I never have any excuse to not push forward to the next challenge in life.

Thank you, daddy, for being there. For doing so much for all of us. For being willing to do whatever you needed to in order to put our family in a good place. I'm grateful for all you have accomplished, all you've helped us with, and all you've overcome.

I love you, daddy. So very, very much.

Happy Father's Day.

Pals, right? Forever!
