Christmas Break

I know it was a month ago..but here are some highlight from our Christmas season!

Paul's holiday work party. This was after the dance portion of the party, which explains why my hair is a little crazy.

We went to a house warming party for some of our friends who recently moved to Dallas. It was so fun and I won a tootsie pop the size of my head! (It was a plastic one filled with normal tootsie pops)

Paul started studying for the CPA exam and grew out a beard.

We went and saw our BYU Cougars play against the Baylor Bears down in Waco. It was a super fun night with my cousin and his family.

Unfortunately due to an overturned semi, we got stuck on the freeway and it took about twice as long as it should have to get home. Good times.

We headed out to Utah on December 23. Our flight attendant turned out the cabin lights and had everyone push their call buttons so it looked like Christmas lights! I love when flight attendants are creative and fun :)

On Christmas Eve we were helping finish up a present for my dad. It was an awesome and slightly embarrassing music video we all put together for him. Unfortunately that will never be seen by the public as far as I'm aware. But somehow a Batman mask became involved..

Christmas day was filled with lots of family and delicious food. We got some clothes, Maverick's tickets, and a wheat grinder for Christmas (the present I really wanted!) among other fun things. It was a great Christmas, mostly because we got to hang out with family and play all week long!

The boys had a fun week. It was filled with Skylanders on the Wii, Foosball tournaments, and trying to beat each others' records on the new Pop-a-Shot they got for Christmas. I love seeing the boys have a good time together!

We once again got to use our connections back at BYU to see a game with the family. We got hooked up with court side seats! So much fun. It felt great to be back.

Another fun night was going to see the lights up at Temple Square.
Paul doesn't normally wear hats but I thought this one looked quite handsome on him. It was a freezing cold night. It snowed several times while we were there.

Favorite picture. Those of you who know all three of us Matheson sisters know that this picture is basically a description of each of our personalities.

We went to another BYU basketball game at Energy Solutions Arena and spent some time with Paul's sister and her husband and dog. It was overall a very successful trip!

The trip home was a little more stressful with several delays and over 12 hours of travel that was originally supposed to be closer to 6. We finished two puzzles soon after getting home and are looking for some new great ones!
Can you guess why this one has been my favorite? :)

california part disney (2)

Does anyone else remember having this toy when they were little?
It was one of my favorites and I had some fun with Jayda.

More Tangled!

This was a magical day.

This was the day that I finally got to spend time with my favorite person at one of my favorite places..DISNEY! Oh..it was magical.

Disney has some of the best root beer floats and ice cream. Amazing.

Love this ride :) Love this boy!

Indiana Jones line..

I've never really eaten a sit-down meal at Disneyland before (no money!) but we did this time at a cute little French restaurant in Frontier Land (I think..) and it was quite delicious!

Remember how I hadn't ever ridden a Ferris Wheel before this trip? Well I got to ride on two..

I love Ferris Wheels!

I love Cars..Pixar anything is so great. And Cars Land is so adorable.

It seriously looks just like the movie.

I also went on the Finding Nemo ride for the first time.
I can't believe how much detail they have under there!

We had to take the picture that everyone takes in front of the flowers..

Cute siblings :)

Everyone was EXHAUSTED by the end but I had so much fun.
Paul loved it too. He wants to plan a trip to Disney World now.
There is nothing quite like a trip to Disney with your love :)

The next day we slept in a bit and then all headed out to go Kayaking at La Jolla.
It was amazing! A little overcast and not the warmest, but still great. Just the young couples went.

We saw fish and sea lions and leopard sharks and got a good workout! Martha almost drowned and Paul and I managed to stay in the kayak the entire time. We were going through caves and I got to see a little baby sea lion - so cute!

Willie

In 1928, Steamboat Willie was premiered!

The production of Steamboat Willie took place between July and September 1928 with an estimated budget of $4,986. There was initially some doubt among the animators that a sound cartoon would appear believable enough, so before a soundtrack was produced, Disney arranged for a screening of the film to a test audience with live sound to accompany it. This screening took place on July 29 with Steamboat Willie only partly finished. The audience sat in a room adjoining Walt's office. Roy placed the movie projector outdoors and the film was projected through a window so that the sound of the projector would not interfere with the live sound. Ub Iwerks set up a bed sheet behind the movie screen behind which he placed a microphone connected to speakers where the audience would sit. The live sound was produced from behind the bed sheet. Wilfred Jackson played the music on a mouth organ, Ub Iwerks banged on pots and pans for the percussion segment, Johnny Cannon provided sound effects with various devices including slide whistles and spittoons for bells. Walt himself provided what little dialogue there was to the film, mostly grunts, laughs, and squawks. After several practices, they were ready for the audience which consisted of Disney employees and their wives.

The response of the audience was extremely positive, and it gave Walt the confidence to move forward and complete the film. He said later in recalling this first viewing, "The effect on our little audience was nothing less than electric. They responded almost instinctively to this union of sound and motion. I thought they were kidding me. So they put me in the audience and ran the action again. It was terrible, but it was wonderful! And it was something new!" Iwerks said, "I've never been so thrilled in my life. Nothing since has ever equaled it."

Yeah, that's all I've got for today. Today was also National Lasagna Day but since I didn't make lasagna, this was my celebration :) This is my cute little friend:

Yay Disney :)

adventure.

Last night I watched Beauty & the Beast. I absolutely love that movie. I can't even describe it.

One of my very favorite parts:

Madame Gaston, can't you just see it?

Madame Gaston, his little wife.

No, sure, not me, I guarantee it.
I want much more then this provincial life!

I want adventure in the great wide somewhere

I want it more than I can tell.
And for once it might be grand
to have someone understand
I want so much more than they've got planned.

Ahh gives me chills every time.

Two years ago, I was about a month away from finishing my internship at Disney World. So crazy to think that was two whole years ago..and at the same time only two years ago! I'm mostly thinking about all of this because today I'd like to say..

Happy Birthday Disneyland!

Disneyland is so much fun. I went to Disneyland for the first time when I was about 6 and didn't go again until High School. I think I've gone about once a year since then. It is really such a magical place. I love the rides, the shows, the amazing (overpriced) food..I love it all. Can't wait to go back.

Here's a few pics from my college program 2 years ago!

Good times.

Well, that's all for today. I have an early 3:30am appointment tomorrow...
